The Glencalvie estate, approached through part of the Caledonian Forest at the head of Strathcarron, is one of the finest sporting estates in the Highlands. Extending to over 20,000 acres, the ground rises to the top of Carn Chuinneag at 2,749 ft, providing stunning views to both the east and west coasts. Glencalvie is the perfect setting for both private and corporate guests to enjoy a sporting or family holiday in the Highlands in great comfort.
Glencalvie Lodge
The lodge accommodates a maximum of 14 guests and the traditional Highland charm of both lodge, and the housekeeping team, ensure that guests are looked after in great comfort. The lodge, built in 1910, features roaring log fires, generous public rooms and a total of 11 bedrooms. There is also overflow accommodation available at Diebidale Lodge, one of Scotland’s great wilderness properties, and in a well-appointed adjacent cottage. The lodge is situated in a very private setting surrounded by beautiful gardens. It is a lovely place to be.
Fishing
Glencalvie offers salmon fishing for a maximum of 6 rods on the Glencalvie (2 rods) and Gruinards beats (4 rods) which are both located on the River Carron. The river has an excellent Spring run and the Gruinards beat fishes from late March and Glencalvie from late April. Both beats are stunningly beautiful and given water they offer some of the most productive spate river fishing in Scotland. In May 2019 over 20 springers were landed in just one day from the Gruinards beat. There is a mix of rocky pools and runs, glides and in many pools the resting fish are clearly visible. It is very exciting fishing. There is an experienced ghillie available to assist on both beats and Gruinards has one of Scotland’s best fishing huts. Please note that the Carron is a spate river and it does require rain to fish at its best. In low water exciting loch trout fishing is also available.
Stalking
Deer management is an important part of estate life and Glencalvie offers some of the finest stalking on the East coast. Parties who wish to assist with the annual cull are able to take 5-10 stags per week during August, September and October. The Estate offers both red and sika stalking and, whilst extraction is now by argo, the ground is traversed by well-maintained pony tracks. All stalking activities are directed by the highly experienced and highly knowledgeable head stalker.
“ Glencalvie is an oasis of calm. As soon as our week ends we we cannot wait to return the following year. ”
